We host a number of our Media Arts workshops and programs at our Headquarters in Poughkeepsie, NY,  however, a majority of our programs take place off-site, which means we bring our multitude of workshops and intensives to a location near you! Keep scrolling for our most current listings of workshops and intensives, or head over to our registration page to register now!

A number of these programs are coordinated through our Mobile Media Labs Initiative, supported by the NYS Regional Economic Development Council, which enables Spark to bring comprehensive Media Education to area libraries.

April 4-May 11 • Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays
3:30-5:30 pm after school • Ages 14-18

Care about the environment? Want to learn how to create iPhone films that look as professional as videos produced with high-end equipment? Apply today for FRAME, a six-week after-school program, at which you’ll learn the process of media production and scientific analysis, while developing school/career readiness skills, to create short videos for the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.

Earn $100 upon completing the program, and films will be submitted to the Data Jam competition for the chance to win prizes from Data Jam!

Instant Filmmaking

There’s an art to creating and sharing videos on “now you see it, now you don’t” social media such as Snapchat and Instagram. In this week-long workshop, students will engage ephemeral storytelling by…

  • learning what makes these social media platforms so unique in the world of filmmaking
  • creating short-yet-impactful videos for visual storytelling
  • studying best practices in cinematography and social media marketing
  • and learning how to make responsible decisions about what to share online.

This workshop will also cover shot composition, branding, character development, and app-based editing. Students will also gain skills in engaging an audience, finding their voice, and developing a strong follower base based on proven techniques. Ages 10-14

Registrants requested to bring their own iPads/devices (equipment will be provided to those who need).
